The information herein is for the genuine psychic or Life in the Spirit (as the term is used herein) member, the latter being telepathy type interactions among the Judeo-Christian religions and similar (i.e. mysticism, union of man and spirit). Life in the Spirit is a deeper experience of God. These pages contain a Novel with a number of themes. The themes put together reflective and contemplative steps. Not all persons will like a particular theme - choose the one you can "imagine". From our main page you may link to specific themes of interest and most religions are catered for. The themes explore paths which can be "mysteries" or "hypotheticals" and which have a high chance of bringing the genuine person "online" to our style of telepathy. From the moment you read this page, you are entering a world parts of which could be fact or fiction - or it could all be true.

Chapter 8 - Laboratory Work

What you are explained in this chapter is equivalent to "laboratory work" for our type of neuroscientists. What you understand and learn is equivalent to what you might learn in a laboratory medical class - many things, most not directly useful because family physicians do not do their own blood test analysis or the like. These type of "hypotheticals" in such a "laboratory" might have different situations, different groups of people in certain types of work or even in prison, or other scenarios. This chapter uses a military scenario because it is possibly the most complicated.

"Ladies and gentlemen."  Darth began. First he walked to the Anglicans whose images were on his left against the wall, they sitting on steps. "My telepathic daughter Lisa insists I give you the same "talking off", as she used that expression, as I did to a new Roman Catholic Life in the Spirit group some time back which had the same problem working through what the biblical commands "the Father is smarter than I"....eh..sorry, that's not the exact quote but you know the one....and what I told them was this "well, if you people did the right thing in the first place and followed Jesus' instructions nicely, you would not have shifted to our psychic channels and end up putting up with two weeks of all sorts of different and peculiar ideas and understandings coming to you as we try to assist you getting into Life in the Spirit in the Jewish Holy Ways. If you are called to the Father, to God, that is what you are supposed to experience. After that, not an issue, all you have is a deeper appreciation of Jewish spirituality which was the spirituality of both Jesus and Virgin MAry and Saint John and Mohammed to name a few, at the Superego level. All right, enough said. This presentation is for our neuro-psychiatrists. I will be alternating between medical facts in ordinary life, or truth as our medical science knows it, and also a military strategy."

Darth walked to the front of the auditorium. "Now, one hiccup that we often get when we, the Telepaths, assist a beginner Life in the Spirit group, is blending with Jewish Noble Ways Life in the Spirit. Jews are probably the largest telepathy network in the world. I don't know their number but perhaps 1 out of 500 Jews is also party to their Life in the Spirit. That is actaually a very large number when you think about it. Noble Ways are not so holy as Holy Ways, in fact the Jewish dimension of life, the true God of the Hebrews, has a touch of distance between the Holy Ways and more ordinary Jews. I don't know what the reason is, maybe it is a bias on behalf of God. Anyway, to demonstrate to you the effects of Ego and Superego adapatation and interactions, we will use a Jewish Army Noble Way and our own Telepathic Military in a kind of war game. We know, we do have super psychics among us, that few of this "Jewish Army Grou" Noble Way are in fact, or ever have been, soldiers - they are more people who enjoy like computer games to do with war. But they are very good at this. We, the psychics, know as little about Noble Ways as we have to. We have our Way of Life. To continually assist another group is a touch of a pain in the neck for us, and all we needed to know about the Noble Ways was that which made it possible to...to..unconfuse...a mixed up telepathy channel."

The imagery changed to a very vivid mental imagery. A group of soldiers, most in Australian Army uniform. Darth imagined himself as a military commander and explained to the Anglicans and the neuro-psych students who imagined standing on the side like spectators watching a war game. "For this presentation, our psychic military will use Australian Army uniform. Most of you in this Anglican group is Australian so we thought this would relate to you better. The Noble Ways military is our enemy in this war game. The game works like this. They would come up with scenarios, and we the psychics would have to plan a certain attack or how to execute an order. Each "army" takes turns at this and points are tallied at the end to see who was the official winner of the "war". If by some chance one army wins by the adjudicators verdict, the game is stopped."

Darth turned to his men some of whom were sitting, dressed as soldiers, on barrels or logs in the middle of an open woody grassy area. Say "Timor" lanscape - in that country at the time of writing Australian soldiers had a peace keeping role. The soldiers had long machine guns and were dressed prepared for a practical operation. The enemy would flow the scenario, and the psychics would begin to work out how to "execute the order". In the first scenario a group of ten Australian soldiers is on patrol and comes close to a hill on which they detect something unusual. They stop. If it is the enemy, which has not seem them at this point, they don't want to alert the enemy without a plan of action.

Darth imagined walking to the neuro-psychics students. "The skill you will learn here, can apply to bank executives, higher officials and many areas. The aim is to make sure you can identify a normal healthy Ego that has modified itself from the usual reality. The Ego is the master reality test so if it chooses to modify itself, then on the surface how can any one of us say what is "insanity-in-law" (in a sense) is?. We need to understand, as medical professionals, exactly what a healthy Ego and SuperEgo is. There are really the most important ones - all rest follow, no matter how complex - but the trick really is the Ego as I feel any psych knows this. Now, does any medical practitioner in the world get accreditation if they don't know what the human body is and how it works? A family doctor is not a surgeon, he or she will never perform cardiac surgery - unless, possibly, in a situation in which she has her medical bag which has some tools, an accident happens, perhaps something sharp is stuck in the chest close to the heart of an injured man, and there is no way to take the person to the hospital and he is in a life-threatening situation. So, while it is unlikely any family practitioner will ever be called upon to do what in a strict sense is surgery, this does not mean they actually can not do it. They could - but lacking the practical experience the risk of them severing the wrong major artery or making a fatal mistake can be high. So, while any medical doctor in some incredibly complex situations in which there is no other way, could perhaps perform perhaps any surgery if they really focused - the chances of the patient surving might not be high, even if the doctor had a suitcase with him with modern anaesthetics and sharp knives and so on."

"Now," Darth paced before the students, "sometimes in unusual situations you might not have your bag with you. Sometimes recalling how medicine was done in less modern times can be useful. I saw this movie not long ago which I took too. The movie tried to reconstruct how the Aztecs kidnapped tribes and used them as sacrifice. Anyway, one village was attacked, a mother and child managed to hide by jumping down into this cave. A long jump. The boy was about seven and when he jumped he cut his foot ever so badly on a sharp rock. The sort of cut that would need stitches in modern terms. The mother did not panic, sat the boy on her lap, reached with her hands for ants by her side, squashed the ant with her fingers while placing its hook-like sharp claws on either sides of the cut. After a while the boy's foot was stiched very neatly and there was no bleeding. Chances are, possibly, I don't k now what species of ants these were, they may also have introduced some strong but not fatal poison into the blood which might have killed off any bacteria around the wound. Sometimes you never know what tools you need or could use unless you heard something in passing and it remaned in your head and one day forty years later "hell, I know what to try!". A tool could be in front of you. In neuro-psych work, this is ever so true."

Darth walked back to the soldiers. "Lads, you work out how we tackle this. Do we spend a night waiting for a patrol to find us? Apparently we only have one mobile with us and someone forgot to charge it. You know the Jews, they introduce these stupid laws into these games. So, what are the choices? Nights are cold, Australian Army is a touch slow sending out patrols and we could be here all night in which case we might get so cold and hungry we might start bitching about why we joined the army in the first place. Not a most pleasant scenario. We could crawl up the hill. Not such a pleasant scenario either. Tall meter weeds are good cover for us - but also for snakes. It is a half a kilometer reasonably steep crawl - shit! - whatever, if there is no choice. Are we likely to  be physically exhausted by the end? I don't think so - we might be bloody annoyed but not exhausted. All right, your call gentlemen."

Darth walked to the psych students. "Apparently I am a General and these are foot soldiers. In this type of game, if the Jews, we have this adjudicator, decide they have won a point, they can introduce another complexity. We, the Australian Army, don't know why they think they scored at this point in time - we can find all this out at the end and might have a laugh or get annoyed at the adjudictor. But, to the point, problem for my Ego which is trying to modify itself to fit into this game is, explained loosely, this: what the hell is a General doing with a patrol of foot soldiers? I don't know the answer, my Ego can not make sense of that, so it assumes something unexpected had happened. If I was a Captain say, not a problem for my Ego, but a General in this situation seems problematic. So, when talking about a healthy Ego, and I think this is so for any humanoid or perhaps some higher species of animal, the Ego that attempts to modify itself has to understand the reason, but also must make sense of the reality into which it is trying to modify itself and be accepted as part of that reality. Basic law of our science. Any Ego which is modified but fails to meet this criteria - is "insane-in-law" by our definition. Don't invent wishy-washy words. The word 'insane" is correct by our science. An insane bank executive, politicians, General, Judge, Barrister, whatever, insane by our definition, is a danger to everybody and no one knows it except you. How he or she might be a danger - not our job to work that out. All we need to know if the person is mentally healthy. When a person is diagnosed as "insane-in-law" by our definition, he or she remains that way unless they accept treatment. I suspect much of the time a treatment regime could be worked out to repair the Ego. If it can't, then as a last resort, put in place a normal natural average Ego."

Darth walked back to his group who had been considering how to attack. "Sir, all right, we go. What we need to do is crawl but keep an eye on one another. So we keep one another in our view, turn one way or the other to check."

Darth called the soldiers to him and sat down with them. "Well, I recall a strategy the Trojans used. They had shields and speers in those times. They would attack in a straight line. Each warrior would focus only on the warrior opposite on his left. The others did not exist to him. If everyone did his job properly, the strategy usually resuilted in no casulties on their side. So, sure, we crawl - through that slimy shit! - but, we each keep an eye only on the person on the left. The ninth man, say you," Darth points to a soldier, "you are the only one with a direct order to sometimes glance left and right - just in case our tenth man was "got at" in a silent way and then they can pick us off one by one. How does that sound? Workable? Any of you can glance left and right if you want, but only the ninth man must do this now and then. Yes? Personally, I would prefer to avoid rubbing my nose in that slime by turning my head the other way, so unless I get a creek neck, I am just going to keep an eye on you," Darth points to a soldier, "because you will be on my left. That's not a please. I am supposed to be a General so this is an order, you on my left, you the ninth man, the rest of  you choose you preferred position and we begin."

"Sir," one of the soldiers objected, "this is not your job, you are an officer, you stay here."

"Listen," Darth stood and paced around the man sitting, "how smart are you? If you were that smart what would you be doing here? You would be earning great money in a cosy desk job at some University or firm. So, if I want to go with you lot, what right have you to order me not to? Sure, if you can persuade me in such a way that I will accept, that the orders we have are contradictory to me going up the hill with you, then yes, I take my hat off to you and I remain here - else shut up and let's get going."

"Have you actually used your gun recently? You don't have a machine gun, sir." Another soldier pointed out.

"Ah," Darth scratched his head, "the last time I used this, was in training, officer school. Let me just remind myself how this works." Darth takes the pistol out. "Correct me if I am wrong. First I need to take the safety off? Then I need to check if the gun is not likely to be jammed or has grit...eh...is that the correct order?"

The soldiers help him to remember how to make sure his gun is ready and nothing appears, a sand speck or whatever, to be likely to jam the device at any point. "Here you are." One soldier prepared the gun, makes sure it is in the correct order, and gives it back to Darth.

Darth walks back to the psyche students. "Now, a healthy Ego, no matter how it modified itself, checks reality. The person who asked me if I recall how to use that gun, even if he did not ask politely, I now pronounce as a healthy Ego. In fact, if you were an assistant to the military, watching such a group war game, or this was a group of bank executives say and you were at their table listening to whatever it was about, you ought to pull out than man from the war games at the point you diagnose his Ego as healthy - just in case his Superego is clever enough to balance imperfect Egos of his mates. And by the way, if I was a bank executive looking fo an executive, regardless of how low a person's IQ as long as it was functional, I would always choose a man with a healthy Ego in the way we define a healthy Ego - perhaps in this case I would put a former soldier in charge of security. It is his Ego that is the executive, not the man as such and the Ego would know that and modify itsef, and he could  be given enough professors or advisors to be the intellect for him if need be. Reality as it is, is the only thing a healthy Ego by our definition in an executive, or soldier I suspect in a war type situation, focuses on and wants to be clear on. In fact, if this was real life, and I had some knowledge of our medical science, I would give that man an order to perhaps crawl twenty meters behind. I might invent a reason to the others, a clever reason, but my true reason is to reduce the risk of that soldier getting killed. His Ego, in my view, in some situations, could save hundreds of his fellow mates just by being clear on reality as it, or the immediate gratification reality that it has to modify itself into."

"The soldier might have said that to get a promotion?" One of the students pointed out.

Darth turned to the soldier, called him over. "This psych, "he pointed to the student, "said you might have said that to get a promotion. You got one if you want one."

"Ah?" The soldier scratched his head.

"Ah, now, if I was the psyche in charge, on hearing this I would pronouce his Superego healthy, and absolutely insist he be pulled out completely out of this war game situation - so his Superego does not confuse me. A healthy and strong Superego will try to assist imperfect Egos in others. I don't want that, that is like a thorn in my side if I am being professional and have a medical job to do." Darth explained to the psych as the soldier walked back, still scratching his head not sure why he was asked that question.

The soldier imagined being back with his mates planning the "assault" in more detail, the soldiers inspecting the terrain closely. One soldier was using field glasses and looking at the hill. The hill looked like it had camouflaged cannons on top. That did not add up. Darth thought that it could be something left over from a previous war and a convenient place to use to hide if you were a militia.

"Stop that!" Darth walked to the soldier using field glasses, "find yourself a deep shade then look...the Sun is so strong every dog and his cat might be seeing the glare on the lenses. If we alert the enemy, they could be waiting. I don't like casulties on my team thank you."

"Sorry, sir," the soldier replied and gound himself a large rock by tall trees and stepped well back into the shade.

Darth decided to walk back and explain to the psyche students. "The way that soldier accepted my..reprimand...tells me he is likely to have a healthy modified Ego. I would not waste my time observing him. If he had made a blunder between now and the end of the games, I don't meant a military miscalculation but a slip of the Ego so to speak, then I would know he does not - else I would diagnose his Ego as healthy because my presumptive diagnosis was that it is, and there is no evidence whatsoever, by the end of the games, that it is not. Actually," Darth began to pace about, "let me explain this in loose medical terms. The Anglicans are complaining I am using too much medical jargo, so I am going to explain something medically but it could be an invented scenario and only you as a medical already half way through your degree, can know the truth. Imagine a patient that has a pituitary adenoma. Small, grew to a certain size, is not likely to grow, we know this from medical research. It may or may not be picked up during labs. An adenoma like this may, from time to time, upset the endocrine system but at the time we order blood tests or similar, there may not be  trace of anything remarkable. Do we in this case assume a presumtpive diagnosis, given the symptoms the patient complains about such as a slight irregularity in menstrual periods, that this could be an adenoma? I my book yes - just like when a young girl falls at school, not badly, but that night and the next day her index finger is sore in one area. If that area is the growth plate of a bone, x-rays may not be 100% accurate as to what they see. We, as medicals, always assume, if there is localised pain in that area, that there is a small fracture in the growth area and immobilize the index finger for...I can't recall the recommended period, would have to look it up if I had such a patient..for two weeks?...anyway...sometimes in our neuro-psych we need to make a presumptive diagnosis on what is presented, but we must be ready to negate this if evidence comes that is contrary. This is common in scientific theories, it is common among doctors - doctors especially don't want negligence suits just because their Ego does not want to admit it made a mistake in a sense - most of the time it is not a mistake, just the way family physicains approach a situation, but in a court of law this could be misinterpreted. In our science, we make conclusions. A persumptive conclusion is valid and lawful, in our book, unless shown otherwise. Think about this. The effort it takes to expose an Ego so it trusts you. Then the effort of side-stepping the natural tendency of the exposed Ego to be you friend and enemy at the same time, trying to trick you into exposing your Ego. The tricks such an Ego might try, can be subtle. If we reach a presumptive conclusion, and the Ego suspects this, it might be on the ball, then the subtletity of the Ego might wait for us to make a mistake. But we are professionals, we are not interested in that, the Ego has to make a mistake - we don't wait for it, want it, or desire this - but if it happens we need to adjust our diagnosis and the conclusion can change. I have no idea how in a court of law our science type of conclusion would stand-up-in-law. I have no understanding of law about such things. Neither should you. We are medical experts. Sometimes two of you might differ in your conclusion. Not a problem for us, one of you might have observed something the other has not. But lawyers and judges might not be able to make sense of this. A healthy adjusted Ego in a judge ought to persuade you in such a way that you feel comfortabvle, to explain this better so a lawyer can understand. A judge whose Ego is mentally ill, will try to push this out of you, perhaps using manipulation techniques such as saying to you "I put it to you that you are badly mistaken in your conclusion!" Now, if you are a genuine psychiatrist and have patients, you can handle these outbursts - but it is your personal choice how you want to explain."

The imagery faded. The imagery of the lecture theatre returned. Darth waited until all images were clean and tidy and focused. "Well, that is the war game, and apparently we won - we the psychics. Sometimes it is smart not to ask why a group wins - these war games are such that few of us can work out how the adjudicators score. Apparently it is a mystery this Noble Ways has. But, perhaps because we have visitors as we call this, in this situation they gave us the final outcome and we can understand it, and it was, put simply, that our strategy - that was the conclusion of the adjudicators - on the balance of probability and available evidence, would in fact achieve the order and objective and likely have nil casulties. This, by the way, in the context of complexity of the...boy...idiotic variations they can throw at us...was almost a childish war game, soley so that our the visitors can grasp the basics and you lot can learn the neuro-psych work involved. This type of experience is more like laboratory work. Maybe it will come in use in practise, maybe it never will, but at least you have some appreciation of different approches to our neuroscience. For homework try to imagine a bank excutive strategy meeting and how you, being asked to sit in and assist the executive to balance things if need be, perhaps when there is a personality clash you might step in with a clinical idea that resolves or placades such, how in that scenario you might spot a healthy modified Ego and Superego, in a heated conflict of interest discussion, each executive trying to score more points with the bank's board of directors in the long run. So they are always looking at the Superego in a sense, or appealing in a subtle way to the Superego, the chief executive officer or president as they are called in the United States, ought to ideally be the proper modified Ego that knows that to be ambitious and succeed is a normal part of the ambition of any true executive - and the CEO knows this - but at the same time, more to the point, the CEO has to to ensure the meeting achieves its objectives in a proper way."
