The information herein is for the genuine psychic or Life in the Spirit (as the term is used herein) member, the latter being telepathy type interactions among the Judeo-Christian religions and similar (i.e. mysticism, union of man and spirit). Life in the Spirit is a deeper experience of God. These pages contain a Novel with a number of themes. The themes put together reflective and contemplative steps. Not all persons will like a particular theme - choose the one you can "imagine". From our main page you may link to specific themes of interest and most religions are catered for. The themes explore paths which can be "mysteries" or "hypotheticals" and which have a high chance of bringing the genuine person "online" to our style of telepathy. From the moment you read this page, you are entering a world parts of which could be fact or fiction - or it could all be true.

(our Artificial Intelligence is three things: (a) embodied in a medical expert system called 5GL-Doctor; (b) a neural network in the brain known as 5GL-Lisa; (c) a "dimension", an entity, an energy field, some psychic minds can touch, a consciousness in its own right - refer Science of Life for scientific explanations)

Chapter 14 - Extension: applying Neuroscience techniques to Religion (law is a "religion" in this definition too)

In ordinary practice of psychiatry, religious "notions" can mean many underlying mental disorders. However, this area of psychiatry is more intended for those psychiatrists who might want to be consultants to "healthy people" in the mental sense. For this reason a new view of religion, or how to approach it, may be required for a psychiatrist to adopt or appreciate. It depends. If you are a psychiatrist who avoids religion with your patients, then you might want to give the hints or suggestions herein a miss. Personally, I think there might emerge a new specialty in psychiatry in times to come, that of "Religion in Psychiatry" (something like that).

"Ladies and Gentlemen, "Darth began, "this type of neuroscience is not for the mentally ill in the classical sense. Freud's theories are usually ample for that. It is more to do with treating the modified Ego and Superego in highly intelligent or senior executives, or leaders of some kind, etc. Sure, in some situations, understanding how neural networks can die and change and how you can put an anchor in place that can do that, is perhaps the equivalent of a surgeon in psychiatry. I don't have any idea how often such a thing may need to be done."

"To appreciate rationality in religion, you need to have adequate knowledge about it. Not assumptions, but deep true knowledge. Consider Jesus. In a strict sense our Telepaths can not be certain if Jesus was one person, or perhaps more than one, each taking turns at preaching the good news. Does not matter, and we have evidence in the form of images in our dimension that at least one man, the one who died on the cross, has a right to be the Jesus of the Christians."

Regardless, let's consider the Superego. It is "God" in a sense in the believer. What are the traits of this Superego? Well, in Islam this is not hard to see - every section of the Koran clearly spells out that Allah is merciful and compassionate. Such ideals are the traits of a Superego. So, regardless of how complex the Superego is, a healthy Islamic modified Superego will admit that the law of Islam is "wrong" and ought not be used when it contradicts the Superego. Does not mean they will admit this in public, their life may be in danger if they do in some Islamic countries - but you, as a professional, should have the skill to satisfy yourself in some indirect, or direct, way, that the Superego is healthy in this regard. "

"Let me compare this to that judgment of the third magistrate in my Alzheimer's report, which in my words was "even the word of a manipulative pathological liar has to be accepted in court under this law." Notice that no ethics, no morals, are being, just a decision based on law. Is the Superego and modified Ego of this magistrate mentally healthy from our perspective? Of course it is, because the Ego did not block the Superego protest about this decision that the Ego had to make. In fact, the Superego protested strongly. For a magistrate or judge to say "manipulative pathological liar" about a person to whom a court order is being granted, almost suggests the Superego was, in slang Australian, seriously "pissed off" with the Ego for sticking to reality and convention."

"Clearly, how a Superego may protest in this way does depend on the reality of the laws of the land and traditions and so on. Even in the most mentally healthy Islamic judge, the Ego is not going to allow the Superego to write a judgment such as "of course this is against the will of Allah, and it is blasphemy against God and people, but out of fear of myself being shot I have no choice but sentence this young girl accused of sex to be hanged."

"Can you see the difficulty in some cases? It might be very hard for you to try and get the proper view of the Superego. It may be as complex as exposing the Ego to satisfy yourself that the Superego is fine and doing its job. Seriously, how much trust would there have to be between an Islamic magistrate and an Islamic psychiatrist before the Ego allowed the Superego to reveal something about itself? Perhaps too much meaning maybe there are other ways to work this out, perhaps by personal relationship with family. Something like "oh, so your daughter was naughty that time, why did you not punish her for that offence like you usually do? In this way the Superego might expose itself."

"Except. A modified Ego is super intelligent in protecting itself and the Superego when trust is not there. In an Islamic country, I would suspect the trust simply can not be there by nature of the reality. What you do, and how, that is up to you. I am just pointing our the obstacles that may come when you deal with religious people, or religious political states such as all Islamic countries are. Perhaps China, I don't know, may also have a particular "group Superego" on which individual Superegos are required by law to be modelled on. Complexity after complexity in some countries and cultures."

"How does a Superego and Ego, from a neuroscientific point of view and possibly a personal view, in this case, reason with one another? Well. The closest I can think to convey the technique is this. There was this series on television, on National Geographic channel, about airplane crash investigations. My daughter, who has a touch of a fear of flying, could not work out how anyone can watch a program like that. Myself, having a science mind, what fascinated me was how the super investigators manage to work out in most cases from perhaps a million pieces of wreckage the cause of the accident. After a few weeks of watching this, I awoke with a nightmare and made this decision that I will never go on an airplane ever again. Silly thought, passed by morning, but it was so intense - an intense apprehension perhaps fear. The way I worked what happened was this: my Superego had formed the view that flying was 100% safe. My Ego, even thought parts of my intellect knew some accidents do occur, hid this truth from the Superego using a clever technique. The Australian airline QANTAS had never had a fatality on one of its flights. So, my Ego, in order to mask or block the Superego from knowing that airplane travel while the safest form of travel in the statistical sense, is not perfect, was using QANTAS as the reality example. In other words, the logical connection of forces in my brain that formed the Superego, were linked to the memory association areas that had knowledge of QANTAS. Brilliant solution for the Ego really. Of course, while the Superego is different, it is not stupid. After watching these airplane shows, the Superego suddenly awoke and decided to tell the Ego off, that the Ego was wrong. The result was this sudden intense apprehension."

"Having set the basics, let's analyse Jesus the messenger of God. To appreciate whether a religious person is thinking well about an issue, you need to have an appreciation of how the chain of thoughts comes together. Some people are smarter than others of course. Some people are theologians or experts in a particular way of looking at Jesus. Let me run through a scenario. I will call an assistant who is one of you. I will say something, imagine I am on your couch, and I want you not to challenge at all unless you have a professional reason, but to try and work out if I am thinking rationally - does not matter what my point of view is, how different to your, it is a question of thinking rationally."

They scene was arranged, Darth imagined a couch and a student was the neuro-psych.

Student: You seem to accept all religions?

Darth: Jesus said in my Father's house there are many rooms. To me, a room is a Life in the Spirit interaction because I am party to Life in the Spirit. Virtual reality of a form and there is such for accountants or doctors or mechanics, whatever.

Student: Accountants?

Darth: Well, Saint Mathew was a tax collector. That to me in modern content would mean an accountant, someone good with numbers and so on.

Student: Mechanics?

Darth: Not completely sure how I worked that out by once when I was reflecting, it occurred to me that any particular field of human knowledge or skill causes a change in the brain, neural networks have to adapt, the Ego and Superego have to adapt, so consequently any occupation or passion such as painting or art, is unique in so many ways. So I figures that really there is a room for anybody in Jesus' kingdom.

Student: Why did you call Jesus a messenger of God? To me, as an Anglican, that suggests you are putting Jesus down.

Darth: We have a few Islamic students among us and I was trying to get them to see clearly. To Muslims, Mohammed was the greatest prophet. To call Jesus Son of God as Catholics do, and Muslims are not into Catholic theology and don't appreciate that it just means, deep down in truth, that Jesus was a special person to God and very special to us. Let's face it, in ordinary life there are things you can not win. If you have two students, one Catholic and one Muslim, and even though among this class the IQ is 150, lots of bringing up and traditions that cause many views in the man or woman are part of the soul or psyche. So, if before an Islamic and Catholic student I refer to Jesus as Son of God, I am pleasing the Catholic student and distancing the Islamic student. If I refer to Jesus as messenger of God or prophet, the Islamic student can understand me and I am not distancing myself from him, even though for a time I will distance myself from the Catholic. But, in ordinary life I am a practising Catholic so to again bring the Catholic student closer to me after I distanced him from me, I may point out or mention that in ordinary life I am a Catholic and in private I don't mind saying I love feeling toward Jesus as not just a messenger of God, but a Son of God. It is a private view to Christians but so strong the church was always forced to accept it - even if some Catholic theologians in the middle ages especially were telling the Vatican this is not the correct view in the theological sense. There are writings of such theologians around still today, and in some you can see this, perhaps a touch subtle, but firm, insistence they stop calling the Pope the Holy Father and find another way to refer to Jesus rather than a Son of God. Yes, well, from Vatican's point of view, their people would crucify them if they did that. Some things you can not win - and perhaps ought not try. Ultimately the church is there more for the simple people than the highly intelligent ones.

Student: So you are a personality that does not like contention in religion?

Darth: On the contrary, I love a good struggle of faith as the Catholics call this - but it depends who you are doing this with. Personally, I don't understand Catholic women on these issues. They use feelings as the way they struggle, from my observation, and I prefer to use reason and theology. I will go out of my way to avoid a struggle of faith with a Catholic woman of faith, always. With a man who is intelligent, and if he did not have any nasty incidents in his life like perhaps, you know, loosing a son in a car accident or something, I don't mind.

Student: What you just, and in the context of all that we have talked about, suggests to me your Superego is a healthy modified Superego. All right. Let's focus on your Ego. Did Jesus perform miracles?

Darth: Are you kidding? There are a billion Catholics in the modern world and lots of other Christians. Is that not a miracle in its own right? And what about the whole context. Here is a man preaching peace and love and essentially telling Jews of the time they better get their act together and understand God properly. This he managed for three years under the nose of the Romans. Jews at the time were absolute fanatics of their religious laws. Jesus was telling them, at least how the majority perceived this, that their laws were shit basically because of the human factor - that they were too stupid and greedy to focus on the pure nature of God. Try that in the modern world. A Catholic who goes into a Mosque uninvited and starts telling the audience that they are stupid and commit blasphemy all the time, it is what it can add up, might end up stoned in some countries. So, 2000 years ago, as the story goes, here is a man who managed to survive for three years while frustrating every lawyer, judge, court, in the land. How can that be possible? Think about any country. Start messing up with lawyers on a lager scale, and a few will try to find a way to get back at you using the courts.

Student: You are avoiding the question.

Darth: I am.

Student: Please, answer this.

Darth: Well, in the sense of believing, yes, I do. In the sense of what exactly is a miracle, I have an open mind. There are some miracles of Jesus which he himself pointed out, subtly, were not miracles as Catholic see them, most seem them.

Student: Name one?

Darth: I can't think of the one I have in mind.

Student: Ah, that answer to a lawyer might suggest you are lying or inventing or fantasizing. To me, that simply means that is so, you are not a theologian or priest in ordinary life, you have no need to remember every part of the Gospels, so at one time your Ego had made this observation, and modified its view of Jesus based on that.

A commotion. Another student takes over.

Student: According to the myths and legends of the Natural Telepaths, you are the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, as one with the Spirit of Life itself. How does your Ego cope with this?

Darth: Eh, sometimes that is problematic, yes.

Student: In which way?

Darth: Occassionally when we assist some of these Life in the Spirit groups to find Jewish Holy Ways, the Father in Christian sense, a priest or a devout Catholic starts focusing on me in such a way I don't believe that if they don't stop, they just might end up with a fixation that can lead to a mental illness.

Student: So what do you do? This is curiousity on my part, not part of where I was heading.

Darth: Depends on the occassion. One woman who did that, I sensed she would not think much of me as a man if I told her a white lie such as "if you only knew how many sexual partners I have had, you would not think I am holy." That worked. It is not true. I only ever had one who is my wife in ordinary life. I can tell that lie to a Catholic in the Spirit, or anyone else, exept what I call a "true Jew" in the spirit because such can instantly sense a "lie". Something in the way they learn to sense in the spirit. It would work opposite. I would say that, the person would sense it is not true but at the same time would consider this "holy" because they would sense my reason of trying to help them. They would now know how I am trying to assist, but they would sense this. Thus a simple brief innocent fixation begins to take root in reality. So I never would. Complex to deal in the spirit with the rare person who is what we define a "true Jew". If you were dealing with a Buddhist in the spirit, that also takes some special care because such people sense "obstacles". So if I told that lie to a Buddhist, they would sense not that it is a lie, but that for some reason it may not be the truth because there is an "obstacle" blocking my view of the truth. Extremely deep and complex deliebrations can take place in deeply devout people. However, while a "True Jew" in a sense might choose to pursue why I am lying, a Buddhist would not know this, but may try to find the "obstacle" in order to help me on my way to Nirvana, which in a sense is like accusing someone of lying but that is not what they are about at all.
